Composer is the most convenient, foldable felt board ever created!

This allows your students to create their own rhythms and songs on a felt staff using felt music notes and symbols! There are literally dozens of ways to use this tool effectively to enhance learning. It can be used vertically on the piano or laying flat on a table. This 33" long x 8 1/2 " wide foldable felt board comes with over 100 felt musical pieces including notes, symbols, sharps, flats, time signatures, rests, bar lines, and more. It's ideal for hands on learning and composing.

IDEAS ON HOW TO USE IT:

  1. Compose rhythms and melodies-
  • Pick a clef, a time signature, a key signature, and arrange the notes and rests and bar lines on the staff.
  • Pick a part of a song and copy it on the felt board staff.
  • Using the felt notes, compose a rhythm on the felt board. Then, take out one note out of each measure. The student then has to complete the rhythm by putting back the correct note in each measure.
  • Clap and count the rhythms and play the songs on the piano.
  1. Learn names and values-
  • Help students learn to identify the names of the notes, rests, clefs & symbols by asking them to pick up a particular felt piece (For example: “Pick up the beamed eighth notes”).
  • Ask students to pick up a note or rest with a specific duration or give them a definition of a musical symbol (For example: “Pick up a note or rest that is 2 beats” or “Pick up the symbol that means to play a half step lower”).
  1. Practice note and interval recognition on the staff-
  • Place a note on the staff and have the student name and/or play the note.
  • Tell students to place a felt piece on a particular note on the staff.
  • Place two felt notes on two different notes on the staff. See if the student can name the notes and determine the interval. Also, you can have the student create specific intervals on the staff themselves.
  1. Work on Key Signatures-
  • Using the felt sharps or flats, have the student practice placing a particular key signature on the staff.
  • Using the quarter notes make an 8 note scale in a particular Key Signature. Add the appropriate sharps and flats.
  1. Work on Time Signatures-
  • Put out a rhythm with a time signature and bar lines. Have the student clap and count the rhythm. Then change the time signature. The student has to change the bar lines and put them between the correct notes.
  • Put out a rhythm without a time signature. Have the student put the correct time signature on the far left side of the board.
